Gento The Annex

Gento The Annex, completed in 2021, offers a private wellness retreat with a yoga room, gym, cinema, and Japanese ofuro bath. Crafted by SAAD Architects and SUDO Construction, the property showcases award-winning architecture, including distinctions such as the World Architecture Award and Outstanding Property Award London (Platinum). Interiors feature Minotti, Baxter, Poltrona Frau, and Riva 1920 furnishings.

The first floor comprises a library and lounge, tatami/yoga room, a large slate lined ofuro which opens to the outside via a full height sliding door, a bathroom and fully equipped pilates and cardio studio. A fireplace separates the two sides. The lower, subterranean floor, includes a generous kitchenette, an expansive cinema room which will accommodate 10 people, a weights room and ample storage. This space could easily be repurposed to provide additional accommodation or staff quarters. Underfloor heating through the property enhances the sense of cosiness.

Architectural Story

Conceived as a counterpoint to the main house, Gento's low horizontal form and shallow pitched roof mimics  the slope of Yotei. Floor to ceiling 360 degree wrap around windows again frame the environment. Timber accents, curated luxurious furniture and mood lighting soften the brutalism of the concrete and steel finishes. The building is suspended from a central spine that  cuts diagonally through the footprint, clad in hot rolled steel and Neolith walls, diving the space into private, facing the forest, area and more public, facing the village.
